Discuss green shipping together
Recently, Mr. Robert Maersk Uglla, Chairman of A.P. Moller Maersk Board, visited China and met with Vice President Han Zheng and Shanghai Municipal Party Secretary Chen Jining. He not only expressed Maersk's recognition and intention to cooperate with Chinese shipping companies, but also expressed his views on green fuels.
On September 20th, Mr. Ugra paid a visit to Chinese Vice President Han Zheng.
Han Zheng stated that since the reform and opening up, Maersk Group has carried out mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation with Chinese shipping companies, and has achieved tangible results. China, Denmark, and Europe have strong economic complementarity and a solid foundation for deepening economic and trade cooperation. China will further expand its high-level opening-up to the outside world, create a market-oriented, rule of law, and international first-class business environment, and welcome enterprises from various countries, including Maersk Group, to deepen cooperation with China and achieve better development in China.
Ugra stated that Maersk has been developing its business in China for over a century and is grateful for the strong support and care from the Chinese government. At present, China has become the world's largest trading nation, and Maersk will continue to invest and develop in China. During the meeting, Ugra also shared Maersk's views on issues such as green transformation and actively listened to relevant opinions and suggestions.
In Shanghai, Mr. Ugra paid a visit to Chen Jining, the Secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, and participated in the 36th Shanghai Mayor International Entrepreneur Consultation Conference, providing suggestions and recommendations to the Shanghai Municipal Government on the theme of "openness, cooperation, and building Shanghai into a center for science, technology, and innovation".
In the conversation with Secretary Chen Jining, Ugra expressed gratitude to the Shanghai Municipal Government, reiterated Maersk's confidence in Shanghai, and stated that it will strengthen cooperation with Shanghai in green transformation, logistics intelligence, and innovation to promote cross-border e-commerce development, continue to deeply cultivate the Chinese market, and promote mutually beneficial cooperation in green shipping and other fields to achieve more results.
At the Shanghai Mayor's International Entrepreneur Consultation Conference (ICBC) held on September 22, Maersk stated that Shanghai has the potential to become a leading global hub for green fuel trading and put forward several suggestions for building this center.
Firstly, we will work closely with green methanol producers and the shipping industry to continuously reduce the cost of green methanol entering the market by optimizing the supply and transportation chain. For example, Shanghai can consider implementing a green port fee system, narrowing the price difference between green fuels and traditional fuels through preferential terms, and encouraging the application of green fuels in ports.
Secondly, create a fair market environment to ensure free trading of green fuels. At present, the global green methanol benchmark has not been established, and China has an industrial chain advantage in producing green methanol. Shanghai can take this opportunity to learn from international standards and summarize and absorb experience through international cooperation to establish the world's first green methanol benchmark.
Finally, Shanghai can encourage the development of green fuel trading technology platforms. The relevant platform must have the ability to verify the green attributes of fuel and provide real-time pricing information, simple transaction processes, and be widely open to all participants in the entire industry chain.
Mr. Ugra emphasized that Maersk has great confidence in Shanghai's development as an internationally leading green fuel trading center and is willing to share its experience in other leading fuel trading centers to help Shanghai fully unleash its potential.
As a steadfast advocate and leader of green shipping, Maersk has always been at the forefront of the industry in the development and utilization of green fuels.
It is reported that in April this year, the "Astrid Maersk" cargo ship conducted China's first green methanol refueling operation at Yangshan Port in Shanghai, creating a milestone in green shipping. Shanghai Port has also become the first port in China to have the ability to inject green methanol.
